Unsung heros
I just read an article about a set of ironworkers that work on the Golden Gate Bridge and how they sign up for a suicide watch and when someone is on their bridge they get up and go to try and talk the person down. They often complete the job without police help because they will often get there before police. They go out because they know the bridge, know safer paths to go and aren't afraid.
I would never have thought about a job like that and what a horrible job it must be but their survival rate for the jumpers is really pretty good. The article is a great one and definately worth reading.

The Cross
So today at church the minister was doing the getting ready for communion talk. He was explaining how communion worked in the church we were in. He then looked up and said "Just as the cross signifies death, the communion table signifies life and death."
I really disagree with that. I believe the cross is a sign of life. I believe I understand what he was saying, or at least alluding to but I still disagree. He did not qualify the statement by saying "At that time" which I believe would have been appropriate. The Romans did use the cross as a way to kill thieves and it was a horrible, horrible way to die. But I do not believe that the cross is any longer a sign of death. It is empty. Therefore a sign of life.
Perhaps I am overthinking this or looking more into his comment then what he meant but there could have been non-believers in that church. And to give the impression that believers wear a cross around their neck and that the cross they wear as a sign of death. No. The cross I wear is a sign of life. A sign that the cross is empty and that he is no longer there. A reminder to me that I need to share the story of that amazing love.
I do not believe that the cross is a sign of death. It is a sign of life. A life that we should be striving to be like. Because that cross reminds us that our life will also be not ended in death but in life. Life eternal.

An Evolution in Christian Music
Christian music has made a huge change since I was a kid. When I was a kid, Carmen was huge for me. I thought he had some great songs and I still think he has great songs. But they had a very distinctive "Christian" sound. The rap wasn't REALLY rap and the hip hop was kinda....well silly.
But like many things, the genre of Christian music has evolved and grown into something that can be listened to by even non believers and enjoyed. There are so many AWESOME singers and groups out here and even my list is not close to the amount of amazing music with a great sound but here are a few that I personally enjoy.
RED - Great group. I put a video up earlier in my blog of them and they are hard, with a driving beat and a great message.
Skillet - This is a group that my brother introduced me to (thanks Paul). This group has a great sound, great guitar rifts. Another great pounding group.
Tenth Avenue North - Another group Paul introduced me to. (thanks again) This group has the sound from Daughtry, all the way to Linkin Park and back. I love all these groups.
Toby Mac - AWESOME AWESOME singer. Was once part of DC Talk (another great group). Toby has some great sounds mixing from rap to reggae and back. Definately worth listening to and purchasing.
I have included a video from the group Skillet for people to watch. The more I have heard this song the more I love it. I wake up with it stuck in my head. So get it stuck in your head now and then go buy the CD. :-) Enjoy.

This is really cool
I was reading an article today about a student at NYU that has made up an "Anti paparazzi" device that detects camera flashes and flashes a brighter LED light back at the camera, blocking out the picture in a non threatening, non aggressive way.
I think it is a great idea. If you want to read more I have included the link to the article if you wish to read more.

Good morning
Good morning all. Another lovely rainy day. I have a meeting at 10 (hence why I am up early) and then I am going grocery shopping. Yes yes, I know. I do lead an exciting life. Bella is already sleeping on the floor beside me after she woke me up this morning. I think she likes me to get up because then I come downstairs and she can sleep on the comfy rug downstairs.
I have Underworld: Rise of the Lycans to watch and I think I am going to try and get some writing in. Should be a great day!!! :-)
Ah well, I need to take off to go and get ready for my meeting. Have a great one all!
