Recycled Percussion

Angie and I went to the Recycled Percussion concert tonight. I wasn't sure what to expect but what I got was an AMAZING concert with some downright mindblowing drumming. One of the guys, Justin, is able to drum 20 beats a second. A SECOND! That is crazy. It was a great concert and what amazed me even more is that they waited so that each and every person was able to get their autograph or picture. It was really really cool. Here is a picture I got with them and I also got their autographs. It was an amazing experience I will remember forever.

Inner Conflict

Hey guys,

So it has been a while since I have been on here writing. I have something to write now and I feel that I need to get it out of my system. A friend of mine is in an abusive relationship. I have made it clear to her that I think she should get a restraining order against her boyfriend but it upset her. I have been speaking to her though about other things. She needs her friends around her and she doesn't need me to pound it into her what I feel she should do. It ultimately comes down to the fact that she has to do what is right. I can't do that for her. It is just hard, as a friend, to sit back and see your friend affected physically and emotionally and not in a good way and not do anything.

So I have prayed a lot about it and basically come to the conclusion that I have to just be a friend and let her know that I am here if she needs to talk. I will also continue praying for her and for her safety. Besides that I have to just let go and let God.

So that is what I have to write about at this time. If I get any updates I will post them but just keep in mind that when people come to work they have a life outside of work that affects them greatly at work. Someone may snap at you, yell at you, or just be rude, and granted it isn't ok but there may be a huge reason why they are acting that way. Take that into account before snapping back. They may just need a safe haven and a friend that cares.

The Pearl Necklace

The Pearl Necklace
A cheerful girl with bouncy golden curls was almost five. Waiting with her mother at the checkout stand, she saw them: a circle of glistening white pearls in a pink foil box. "Oh please, Mommy. Can I have them? Please, Mommy, please!"

Quickly the mother checked the back of the little foil box and then looked back into the pleading blue eyes of her little girl's upturned face. "A dollar ninety-five. That's almost $2.00. If you really want them, I'll
think of some extra chores for you and in no time you can save enough money to buy them for yourself. Your birthday's only a week away and you might get another crisp dollar bill from grandma."

As soon as Jenny got home, she emptied her penny bank and counted out 17 pennies. After dinner, she did more than her share of chores and she went to the neighbor and asked if she could pick dandelions for ten cents. On her birthday, Grandma did give her another new dollar bill and at last she had enough money to buy the necklace.

Jenny loved her pearls. They made her feel dressed up and grown up. She wore them everywhere--Sunday school, kindergarten, even to bed. The only time she took them off was when she went swimming or had a
bubble bath. Mother said if they got wet, they might turn her neck green.

Jenny had a very loving daddy and every night when she was ready for bed, he would stop whatever he was doing and come upstairs to read her a story. One night when he finished the story, he asked Jenny, "Do you love me?"

"Oh yes, Daddy. You know that I love you."

"Then give me your pearls."

"Oh, Daddy, not my pearls. But you can have Princess-- the white horse from my collection. The one with the pink tail. Remember, Daddy? The one you gave me. She's my favorite."

"That's okay, Honey. Daddy loves you. Good night." And he brushed her cheek with a kiss.

About a week later, after the story time, Jenny's daddy asked again, "Do you love me?"

" Daddy, you know I love you."

"Then give me your pearls."

"Oh Daddy, not my pearls. But you can have my babydoll. The brand new one I got for my birthday. She is so beautiful and you can have the yellow blanket that matches her sleeper."

"That's okay. Sleep well. God bless you, little one. Daddy loves you." And as always, he brushed her cheek with a gentle kiss.

A few nights later when her daddy came in, Jenny was sitting on her bed with her legs crossed Indian-style. As he came close, he noticed her chin was trembling and one silent tear rolled down her cheek. "What is it, Jenny? What's the matter?"

Jenny didn't say anything but lifted her little hand up to her daddy. And, when she opened it, there was her little pearl necklace. With a little quiver, she finally said, "Here, Daddy. It's for you."

With tears gathering in his own eyes, Jenny's kind daddy reached out with one hand to take the dime-store necklace, and with the other hand he reached into his pocket and pulled out a blue velvet case with a strand of beautiful genuine pearls. He had had them all the time. He was just waiting for her to give up the dime-store stuff so he could give her genuine treasure.

Question- what imitations are we holding onto that stops us from receiving God's genuine treasures?

Unsung heros

I just read an article about a set of ironworkers that work on the Golden Gate Bridge and how they sign up for a suicide watch and when someone is on their bridge they get up and go to try and talk the person down. They often complete the job without police help because they will often get there before police. They go out because they know the bridge, know safer paths to go and aren't afraid.

I would never have thought about a job like that and what a horrible job it must be but their survival rate for the jumpers is really pretty good. The article is a great one and definately worth reading.

The Cross

So today at church the minister was doing the getting ready for communion talk. He was explaining how communion worked in the church we were in. He then looked up and said "Just as the cross signifies death, the communion table signifies life and death."

I really disagree with that. I believe the cross is a sign of life. I believe I understand what he was saying, or at least alluding to but I still disagree. He did not qualify the statement by saying "At that time" which I believe would have been appropriate. The Romans did use the cross as a way to kill thieves and it was a horrible, horrible way to die. But I do not believe that the cross is any longer a sign of death. It is empty. Therefore a sign of life.

Perhaps I am overthinking this or looking more into his comment then what he meant but there could have been non-believers in that church. And to give the impression that believers wear a cross around their neck and that the cross they wear as a sign of death. No. The cross I wear is a sign of life. A sign that the cross is empty and that he is no longer there. A reminder to me that I need to share the story of that amazing love.

I do not believe that the cross is a sign of death. It is a sign of life. A life that we should be striving to be like. Because that cross reminds us that our life will also be not ended in death but in life. Life eternal.

An Evolution in Christian Music

Christian music has made a huge change since I was a kid. When I was a kid, Carmen was huge for me. I thought he had some great songs and I still think he has great songs. But they had a very distinctive "Christian" sound. The rap wasn't REALLY rap and the hip hop was kinda....well silly.

But like many things, the genre of Christian music has evolved and grown into something that can be listened to by even non believers and enjoyed. There are so many AWESOME singers and groups out here and even my list is not close to the amount of amazing music with a great sound but here are a few that I personally enjoy.

RED - Great group. I put a video up earlier in my blog of them and they are hard, with a driving beat and a great message.

Skillet - This is a group that my brother introduced me to (thanks Paul). This group has a great sound, great guitar rifts. Another great pounding group.

Tenth Avenue North - Another group Paul introduced me to. (thanks again) This group has the sound from Daughtry, all the way to Linkin Park and back. I love all these groups.

Toby Mac - AWESOME AWESOME singer. Was once part of DC Talk (another great group). Toby has some great sounds mixing from rap to reggae and back. Definately worth listening to and purchasing.

I have included a video from the group Skillet for people to watch. The more I have heard this song the more I love it. I wake up with it stuck in my head. So get it stuck in your head now and then go buy the CD. :-) Enjoy.

It's true

This is really cool

I was reading an article today about a student at NYU that has made up an "Anti paparazzi" device that detects camera flashes and flashes a brighter LED light back at the camera, blocking out the picture in a non threatening, non aggressive way.

I think it is a great idea. If you want to read more I have included the link to the article if you wish to read more.

Good morning

Good morning all. Another lovely rainy day. I have a meeting at 10 (hence why I am up early) and then I am going grocery shopping. Yes yes, I know. I do lead an exciting life. Bella is already sleeping on the floor beside me after she woke me up this morning. I think she likes me to get up because then I come downstairs and she can sleep on the comfy rug downstairs.

I have Underworld: Rise of the Lycans to watch and I think I am going to try and get some writing in. Should be a great day!!! :-)

Ah well, I need to take off to go and get ready for my meeting. Have a great one all!

Cool Idea

Angie

So I have to say I am very blessed. I have a wonderful WONDERFUL family that is uber supportive but as my family knows, I have often had issues with friends. Issues as in not having reliable friends.

But I have an awesome friend now. Angie is AMAZING. She had been reliable. She is one that drops in from time to time but she calls before hand and then just comes over and yesterday she came over and painted my toenails. It was so much fun just having another girl to talk with and laugh with.

She is easy to talk to and a great friend and I am HUGELY blessed to have met her and be friends with her. I look forward to a lifetime friendship with Angie. :-)

I am so so blessed.

Patriot Guard

I asked the Patriot Guard to come in and ride in to the school for a Memorial Day assembly we were having at school this past Friday. I have been trying to get this set up and arranged since October so I have been really working hard at this. I was in charge of getting the Patriot Guard there and setting it up to have one of them talk.

I have to say from my end it was very cool. We had around 9 bikes and a police escort through town. The police officer was AWESOME and he was really funny. The Patriot Guard people seemed excited to be talking to kids.

They brought bracelets that say "I Support Our Troops" for all the kids to have. The Superintendent showed up and the newspaper showed up. I think the kids will remember it and some of the guys from the Patriot Guard said they would try to have more bikes next year. So they are thinking about next year and that is awesome. Hopefully we can get a ton more bikes but for our first year I think it was a great turnout.

Next year I just hope that the peeps in charge plan what is happening around the Patriot Guard a bit better. But Jenni took some pictures of the whole thing and I can't WAIT to see them. She is a professional photographer so the pictures should be amazing! Hopefully I will have some to share with everyone soon.

Happy Memorial Day all. Thank a Veteran for their service and remember those that have passed on.

Wolverine

So tonight I went with mom and we went to go see X-Men Origins - Wolverine. I have to tell you it was pretty good. I didn't like some of the changes I saw in the story line but I loved the characters and who they picked to play them.

Ryan Reynolds was really funny as Deadpool but I really felt they probably could have done more with him. But ah well.

Leiv was AMAZING as Sabertooth. He was kinda dark and I wasn't sure he would be able to do that but did he prove me wrong!!! He must have had a BLAST playing that character. Victor Creed aka Sabertooth was a great character.

And then there was Gambit. Mmmm mmmm mmmmm. Again, I think they could have done far more...FAR more with him but it was nice to see him and the guy that played him did a pretty good job. They got the eyes right, which I was a bit worried about. They did a great job with his powers and even with the attitude.

Overall I thought it was a great movie and will definately be purchasing this one when it comes out on DVD.

My suggestion...go see it. Great great movie!!

A GREAT Weekend!!

So this weekend was a BLAST. I was on my bike as often as I could. I had a couple of close calls, or what I would feel are close calls. Nothing big but enough to get my heart pumping. But I went on new roads and in new areas and I did well. I think I just have to continue building my confidence on the bike.

Dad took the windshield off my bike this weekend under Paul and Robin's suggestion just to see if I would like it. I LOVED it. I did find that I am going to have to strengthen my back and my neck muscles because the wind pulls my head all over the place. So when I rode today before coming home I really tried to hold my torso and my head still. I think I did a good job. Then again I may wake up tomorrow and be unable to move my head but hey.....we shall see what happens. lol

I also got a new pair of glasses Thursday and I LOVE LOVE LOVE them. I feel cute....I feel professional. I feel professionally cute. -grins- Yup...that's right. Professionally cute.

And best of all...my brother wasn't really happy with the direction of the company he was working with some he put some feelers out, got a few bites, went through a crazy crazy interview session. It was like 7 steps or something!!! I am glad I haven't had to go through something that intense.

Anyway, the happy news, he got the job today!! They called him and offered him the job!!! He will be closer to his house, which will be nice, and I think it is going to work out wonderfully. Paul is UBER talented and REALLY good at what he does. He has mad ninja skillz with his job and I am very, VERY proud of him. He has amazing people skills, people are drawn to him and I think that is a God given talent as well.

He is going to ROCK at his new job....and it does help he knows how to add the "24" ring. :-)

Congrats Paul. I am proud of you!! Love ya and have a blast tomorrow at work!

Got to ride today

Today Paul and I headed out for a ride. Little did I know how far we would go!! Paul and I had fueled up before we left so we were all set to go. Our first destination was Seacoast Harley Davidson. It was a beautiful day so we headed out and the ride was great. Not a ton of traffic except in downtown Exeter. We got what I needed at Harley then talked about where we were going next. I didn't have a clue (as usual) and was pretty happy to go wherever. Paul's suggestion was New Castle, NH and what a GREAT IDEA. I have only been there once in the entire time I have lived here. The picture above is of a lighthouse/coast guard station at New Castle. Then after that we went through Portsmouth then over to Nottingham. It was GREAT. The only downside was that my left hand was REALLY hurting from pulling in the clutch. But all total we rode about 60 miles today. A really long ride according to me but it was BEAUTIFUL. And what was even better?? Paul got a sunburn and I didn't!!! YAY FOR ME. Granted.....None of my skin was exposed today and his was but we are overlooking that minor point. I didn't get sunburned and he did. How many times can I say that? That will probably be the one and only time this year.

Mmm of the Week

Ok...Robert Downey Jr. Some people may say "Why him?" Well I think there are several very sexy things about him:

1. Just look at him. He is beautiful.
2. He has overcome huge adversities in his personal life.
3. He is an amazing actor.
4. He has a great sense of humor.

I think those are all very important but I think what impresses me the most is how he went from on top to a very low point in his life, back to being back in the game and showing that he is still a sexy, strong, amazing leading man.

Good for you, Robert!!! Strength, dillegance, and a love for your work.....THAT is sexy.

Update

So today is the second day of my vacation. I have been doing some cleaning but mainly watching stuff on demand and writing as well as reading. I am getting ready to head out to lunch here in a few minutes with a fellow case manager from a sister school. Am very excited. Will be nice to talk about stuff at work and have someone that understands.

Day after tomorrow I am heading home and I am very excited about that. There are several reasons I am excited about coming home.

1. Get to see my family.
2. I get to ride my bike.
3. Get to see my family.
4. I get to ride my bike.

And those are pretty much my top reasons. Oh yeah!!! I am working on my next Mmmm of the week. I have seen several options but am not sure yet. I am also thinking of putting up cool wedding ideas from time to time. If I am not getting married any time soon I am going to put up cool wedding ideas and pictures. Yes...I have been watching wedding shows and I am pretty sure I will be over this soon but until then you will need to put up with me. :-D

Look forward to cool wedding ideas, dresses, and fun honeymoon places. YAY!!!

And don't forget the MMMM of the week!!!

Naked Refrigerator Guy

Three men approached the gate to heaven and as
there was only one opening left, the gatekeeper said
that whoever had the most remarkable and worthy death could enter.
He asked the first man how he died, and the man replied,

'Imagine this -- I suspected my wife was having an affair
behind my back and I wanted to find out the truth.
I came home from work one day to surprise her and catch her in the act.
When I searched the house I found her in the bathroom.
The mirror was fogged and she had a towel on but her hair
wasn't wet, so I knew she wasn't taking a shower.
I looked all around the house to find the guy.
I found ten fingers hanging onto the window sill outside.
I pounded them until he finally let go.
When he fell he landed in some bushes and
God must have loved him because he lived, so I threw the
refrigerator out the window to finish him off.
After all the excitement I fell dead of a heart attack.'

Then the gatekeeper asked the second man how he died. He replied,

'Imagine this -- I'm minding my own business on top of my
apartment building. I was riding one of those stationary
bicycles when the screws gave out and I flew off the side.
I reached out and caught a window sill, then some idiot
started pounding on my fingertips. When I fell I landed
in some bushes and God must have loved me because I lived.
But then that same idiot threw his
refrigerator out the window and it crushed me.'

'That, too, is horrible,' said the gate keeper.
Then he asked the third man the same question.

His reply was, 'OK, imagine this, I'm naked in a refrigerator...'

How to tick people off

Much like Robin, I also just recently joined Stumble and got this link. If you haven't done this before then sign up. It gets you some great results and some hilarious hits.

How to tick people off

  1. Leave the copy machine set to reduce 200%, extra dark, 17 inch paper, 99 copies.
  2. In the memo field of all your checks, write "for sexual favors."
  3. Specify that your drive-through order is "TO-GO."
  4. If you have a glass eye, tap on it occasionally with your pen while talking to others.
  5. Stomp on little plastic ketchup packets.
  6. Insist on keeping your car windshield wipers running in all weather conditions "to keep them tuned up."
  7. Reply to everything someone says with "that's what you think."
  8. Practice making fax and modem noises.
  9. Highlight irrelevant information in scientific papers and "cc" them to your boss.
  10. Make beeping noises when a large person backs up.
  11. Finish all your sentences with the words "in accordance with prophesy."
  12. Signal that a conversation is over by clamping your hands over your ears and grimacing.
  13. Disassemble your pen and "accidentally" flip the ink cartridge across the room.
  14. Holler random numbers while someone is counting.
  15. Adjust the tint on your TV so that all the people are green, and insist to others that you "like it that way."
  16. Staple pages in the middle of the page.
  17. Publicly investigate just how slowly you can make a croaking noise.
  18. Honk and wave to strangers.
  19. Decline to be seated at a restaurant, and simply eat their complimentary mints at the cash register.
  20. TYPE IN UPPERCASE.
  21. type only in lowercase.
  22. dont use any punctuation either
  23. Buy a large quantity of orange traffic cones and reroute whole streets.
  24. Repeat the following conversation a dozen times.
    "DO YOU HEAR THAT?"
    "What?"
    "Never mind, it's gone now."
  25. As much as possible, skip rather than walk.
  26. Try playing the William Tell Overture by tapping on the bottom of your chin. When nearly done, announce "No, wait, I messed it up," and repeat.
  27. Ask people what gender they are.
  28. While making presentations, occasionally bob your head like a parakeet.
  29. Sit in your front yard pointing a hair dryer at passing cars to see if they slow down.
  30. Sing along at the opera.
  31. Go to a poetry recital and ask why each poem doesn't rhyme.
  32. Ask your co-workers mysterious questions and then scribble their answers in a notebook. Mutter something about "psychological profiles."

Well yeah, those guys and it was AWESOME. Now those around us...well that is a different story but the concert itself was great. They still sound awesome and look amazing. I will be putting pictures up soon but that probably won't be until Sunday night at the earliest.

So yes I am saying it proudly....I LOVE the New Kids on the Block!!!!

Bigger plans

So today, mom, dad and I pulled our offer off the table on a house we were looking at. The sellers were not really working with us and I am not sure any of us really trusted the realtor. I know the realtor isn't the seller but the way the realtor is perceived really does affect the sale.

So we won't be looking again right away but I will be keeping my eyes on homes online and getting opinions from family. It just wasn't the right time and perhaps God has different plans. Am excited to see what the plans are.

A Path Less Traveled.

So I have been looking at purchasing my own home. Well...I guess kinda my own home. I am not very excited but am more ill at the idea of this size of a purchase. I think it is just nerves right now but when i think about it the knowing that I could possibly own my own piece of the world....well that is pretty cool.

So will keep you updated. The offer was put in today and hopefully I will get some kind of response by tomorrow evening.

Keep your fingers crossed.

Daily update

Ok so this is my blah day. I couldn't sleep last night for whatever reason, then I woke up UBER late today. I got up at 7:25 which was HORRIBLE and was in my car, showered and with my lunch at 7:45. Was even dressed which I think my neighbors were thankful for. :-P

Bella is also doing better. After her hair cut yesterday her eyes were still dialated from the drugs they gave her to help her sleep and she was shaking pretty bad. Dad thinks her eyes were huge because she saw her reflection and she was shaking cause she was embarrassed at being nekkid.

Well she is doing better now. Am going to try and put pictures on here but I can't seem to get my computer to notice my camera. -grumble grumble- Oh and last night I bought a song on itunes and was going to download them to my ipod. Put it on the comp and it had to delete everything and redownload it all. 1160 songs. I was like..."WHAT?!?!" So then to get the song I bought I had to redownload all of my songs again.

Ahhhh well at least it is all set now.

So there is my update. Mom and dad, Paul and Rob are coming up Saturday to see the green house so am excited about that. It is a very nice house although the steps are a bit steep. But se la ve (or however you spell it).

Love to all!

Public Enemies

I cannot wait until this movie comes out. It also has Christian Bale in it who looks great as well but NO ONE looks as good as Johnny Depp. I can't WAIT!!!!
